London comes to Minnetonka

BBC Television host Stephen Fry on Lake MinnetonkaOn February 22, we assisted the British television series “Fry In America” in bringing its cameras and host, Stephen Fry, to Lake Minnetonka to participate in one of Minnesota’s favorite winter outdoor activities…ice fishing.

After scouring several bays on Lake Minnetonka, Stephen Fry and local fishing host Tim Lesmeister selected a sun-drenched bay near Wayzata to auger through two feet of ice and set their lines. Patience is the virtue of an ice angler, and it doesn’t hurt to have an underwater camera set up to entertain the anglers while they wait for the fish to bite.

Stephen Fry spent some time on his knees peering into the screen to watch countless fish eye the bait on his hook and then swim on past. But patience won out and soon the sunnies were biting fast and furious. Mr. Fry was elated with the action.

As the day wore on, the camera crew was ready for a final shot and a “goodbye” from Stephen…the best possible thing that could happen on a fishing show happened. A “tip-up” flag sprung upright and someone shouted “fish on.”

Stephen and Tim scurried to the rod that was severely bent under the strain of an unknown watery monster below the ice. As the line was slowly wound onto the reel and the head of the fish began to protrude through the ice, angler Adam Johnson sprang forth and grabbed the monster pike and hoisted it into the bright sunshine.

A successful media outing, which will air on the BBC television series “Fry in America,” and stateside on PBS. See more about working with EMT to promote your area.
