According to Wise Mail, increasing awareness of the impact events have on the environment has caused event planners to incorporate "green" into their planning process. Adding eco-friendly purchasing and zero-waste options often are a way for event goers to first experience how small changes in behavior can greatly decrease their environmental impact.

In conjunction with the Shoreland Rules Update Project, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) would like to hear from resort owners to gain a better understanding of resort interests, to discuss the importance of water quality and habitat, and to get feedback on the development of resort specific standards.

The U.S. Department of Commerce announced that 34.9 million international visitors traveled to the United States during the first eight months of 2008, an increase of nine percent over the same period in 2007. In August 2008, total visitation was 5.6 million, an increase of six percent over August 2007.

The Travel Industry Association (TIA) released its annual travel forecast indicating that an uncertain economic climate is leading American and global travelers to change their behaviors. Although leisure travel is stable, business travel is projected to decline and the United States is likely to be hit hard by a further decline in international arrivals. TIA emphasized that should be seen as a part of the solution to economic woes.
